President of the FCT Baptist Conference of the Nigerian Baptist Convention (NBC) Dr Israel Adelani Akanji, has lambasted the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) ”for talking too much about recovered loots.”

He told reporters in Abuja on Monday that EFCC should stop acting in ways that would affect successes of its campaign.

His words: ”The EFCC should not report something it has not ascertained, before they make pronouncement.

“They must verify their claims in order not to damage the image of the institution or innocent people.

”EFCC needs to show a high sense of professionalism in carrying out their duties, slow to speak and quick to listen.

“It is laughable that in this modern world, money could be dropped at the airport without tracing the people that dropped it.

”Why can’t we use the CCTV cameras to trace those who dropped the money? It appears to be intentional.

”It is expected that in a high security area like the airport, the CCTV cameras would have captured the movement but for such a thing to happen unnoticed is truly regrettable.

”We are making a caricature of ourselves before the world by saying we cannot trace those who dropped the money, what are we doing with technology?

“It is a sign that other bigger things may happen at the airport without them being discovered or reported,” Akanji said.

He, however, commended government’s push to reduce corruption to its barest minimum.

Akanji urged sustained anti-corruption campaign, but warned that it must not be for witch-hunt or to suppress the opposition.
